Scottish Project
The Scottish Castle was at first intended to be a reasonably quick project but it soon turned into something far more exciting. Having been lucky enough to have worked with my clients before, we knew eachother well and have over the years done some amazing things together. It is a joy to have brave clients!
From start to finish actually took five years.
We changed so much but kept so much too. The castle craved colour and comfort, both of which I hope we have provided. All the floors have been replaced with antique floorboards from an Austrian vodka factory and the fitted carpets are gone. Lovely, and some of them huge - rugs are found in every room.
Although we did keep some of the furniture, much of it found other homes. The dining room however, kept pretty much all the large furniture as it was made for the room. We just had it restored back to the original colour of lovely dry oak that it once was. All fireplaces were replaced throughout the house.
The most magical thing about this room now is the gauffrage dark blue velvet walling, curtains to match but without the gauffrage and a fireplace reinstated. It comes completely alive at night.
When I couldn't find the right amount and size of antique Delft tiles for the attic fireplaces I asked if I might paint the designs. The answer was yes, and I went on to design both the breakfast and dinner services too and all the toothmugs! So a spoiling commission.
I am so proud of what we achieved and collected along the way. Nothing looks too new or is trying too hard, it just feels right. People who have never been to the castle might wonder if anything has actually changed at all.
